About This Place

La Esquina Criolla stands as a vibrant beacon of authentic Argentinian cuisine nestled in the heart of Elmhurst, NY. This family-favorite restaurant has consistently delivered a genuine taste of Argentina, blending traditional recipes with an inviting neighborhood atmosphere that feels both warm and familiar. Whether you are a longtime fan of South American flavors or an eager newcomer, La Esquina Criolla promises an unforgettable dining experience that resonates deeply with the soul of Argentinian culture.

The culinary journey here centers around expertly grilled meats, a hallmark of Argentinian dining. The Combination Skirt Steak and Beef Ribs with Chorizo is a standout, offering a perfect balance of smoky richness and tender juiciness that melts on the palate. The Parrillada Mixta is a carnivore’s dream—a generous mix of succulent skirt steak, short ribs, chorizo, morcilla (blood sausage), and the unmistakable zing of chimichurri Argentino that awakens every bite with herbal freshness and garlicky warmth.

Seafood options also shine with dishes like Camaron Al Ajillo, shrimp sautéed in a bold garlic sauce that imparts a luscious, savory intensity, and the delicate Salmon a la Plancha, perfectly grilled to preserve its natural oils and flakiness. For the perfect balance, lighter fare such as the Ensalada de Aguacate and the creamy Ensalada Rusa bring refreshing textures and subtle contrasts to the rich meat-centric offerings.

Side dishes elevate the meal further: the crispy yet tender Papa Frita a La Provenzal—fries infused with garlic and parsley—alongside sweet Platanos Maduros which provide a delightful caramelized sweetness that complements the savory mains.

La Esquina Criolla’s ambiance echoes the spirit of Argentine hospitality—comforting, unpretentious, and deeply authentic. Diners often share stories and laughter over generous servings of Sangria Roja, a perfectly balanced and fruit-forward drink that cuts through the richness of the grilled dishes with refreshing zest. The staff’s attentiveness and warmth, as echoed by patrons, make guests feel like part of an extended family, creating memories that invite repeat visits.

Longtime regulars praise La Esquina Criolla for retaining its consistent quality across decades. From Michel Nee’s observation of the “exceptional, highly focused and delightful” service to Luis Briones’ nostalgic appreciation of the “scrumptious” steaks and unbeatable prices since the ’90s, it’s clear the restaurant has carved a cherished place in the community’s heart. Mike Marz55 highlights the perfectly grilled meats that satisfy true Argentine cravings, while Ana Butler’s birthday celebration here exemplifies the inviting, festive character of the space.

For those seeking a genuine Argentinian steakhouse experience with nuanced flavors, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere, La Esquina Criolla delivers with passionate authenticity. Every visit promises a captivating exploration of Argentina’s rich culinary tradition, leaving diners not only satisfied but genuinely touched by the depth of flavor and heartfelt hospitality.

I've been coming to this non-presumptive Argentinian steak house since the 90's. It has probably been around since the mid to late 70's or even before that. And that's because they have retained the repeat clients and new one's because of how good their steaks and prices are. Their steaks are "scrumptuous." I have a sirloin steak with mashed potatoes and the Russian salad with a glass of red house wine, and I leave very satisfied each time. And can't wait till the next time that I can go for a juicy perfectly cut and quality steak cooked over fire.

My wife is from Argentina and she needs her fix of Argentinian food. She likes this place the best out of all the Argentinian restaurants. Perfectly grilled and tender meats. Great tasting sangria to go with your food. Always get a grill of meats for 2 or 4 people depending if it's just me and her or 2 other people with us. I love their skirt steak, it was cooked exactly how I requested. Side of maduros and morcilla and I'm in heaven.

Nice neighborhood restaurant. Feels like being at home. The steaks are top notch; cooked to perfection, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. Recommend the combo <> with fríes. The cheese cooked on the grill is delicious. The place has decent wines, too.

On behalf of The Center for the Women of New York, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to La Esquina Criolla for their generous and delicious donation of empanadas to our Taste of the World at Fort Totten gala. La Esquina Criolla’s empanadas were, as always, a huge hit—flaky, golden pastry wrapped around savory, well-seasoned fillings. Each bite was packed with authentic flavor and made with the kind of care and tradition that keeps guests coming back for more. It’s no surprise that their empanadas have become a beloved staple at our event! We’re so grateful for La Esquina Criolla’s ongoing support and dedication to our cause. It’s because of wonderful local businesses like theirs that we’re able to raise essential funds to support women across New York. Their continued generosity makes a real difference in our community. We highly recommend La Esquina Criolla for their consistently delicious empanadas and their big-hearted commitment to giving back. Thank you for helping make our event a success yet again

This place has great steak! I had the entraña for two, they cook the steak to your liking. The give you bread and and chorizo parrillero as an entry. The price is not expensive for the amount of food and service. The chimichurri is delicious! 5 stars for sure. My family comes here all the time.
